Miss C and the Dr's made up Conversation this Afternoon.

Miss C left eye has a big red spot on the top white bit (Sclera). She is going to the doctors to get it checked out and for our daily blog post this morning we have to make up a conversation between her and the doctor.

Miss C: Hi, I have this red spot on my eye. What is it?

Dr: That is Subconjunctival Hemorrhage which means one of the fragile blood vessels in your eye has broken and has bled out on the white part of your eye.

Miss C: How come this doesn't happen all the time then?

Dr: You would only get it from things like sneezing, coughing, straining, vomiting, eye rubbing, trauma, high blood pressure and blood disorder. Have you been sick recently?

Miss C: Yes I have had the flu last week.

Dr: Yes that probably caused it.

Miss C: When will it go away?

Dr: In around two weeks but until then make sure you don't rub it and look after it carefully. If it is still there after two weeks come back and see me again.

Miss C: Thank you for helping me with my eye. Bye!

200 Word Short Story.

Today for Daily Blog Post, we had to right a 200 word story about one of the topics our teacher gave us. I chose A stolen ring, a fear of spiders and a sinister stranger.
Here it is:

One day I was walking down to the corner store to buy some groceries. I was nearly there when someone bumped into me and my ring slipped off, I went to pick it up when that person came up behind me and pushed me over, grabbed the ring and started running. I got up and chased after them, that was my engagement ring and I wanted it back.

I figured he wanted that ring because I was gaining on the thief but he turned right and ran down the alleyway. I suddenly slowed down, “Not the alleyway.” This alleyway I stayed as far as I could from because, My worst fear, spiders. I hate spiders. The problem was that this alley way was filled with spiders. So much that everyone called it “spider lane”. So I tried to run around the building on the path and catch up with him but by the time I got there I saw a car, driving away, as fast as it could. I was so disappointed. I wondered what my fiance would say. Then I realised I could go back to my car and chase him but then it would take too long anyway.

Science Experiment: Cup Telephone.

Cup Telephone.

Equipment:
  • Cup x2
  • Match sticks x2
  • 1-2 meter long string

Method:
  1. Poke one hole in the bottom of each cup with the match stick.
  2. Pull the string through both holes in the cups.
  3. Tie the match sticks to the end of the end of the string. (one on each end inside the cups)
  4. Have a partner to hold the other cup and keep walking further away from you until the string is tight. (make sure the string or cup doesn't break while you're doing this)
  5. Talk into the cup while your parter holds the other cup to his/her ear and swap around.
What happens?
You can hear the other person clearly!

How does this work?
When you talk straight into your cup, it sends vibrations. Vibrations can travel through solid objects, like string! The vibrations of your voice travel through the string into the cup and your eardrums turn those vibrations into words!

GeoGuessr Game.

Geoguessr is a game that generates a random place from google maps and you have to guess where that place is in the world. The site layout looks like this:

<-- As you can see the main part of the screen is the place and on the right hand side there is a little map. On this map you have to click the place where you think the place on the screen is. Then click make guess.

When you click make guess
it will pop up with a map with a red line from where you guessed and where the place really was. It will give you more points the closer you are to the real place.
(I was really far away in this example and you can see at the top right I was 11006.779 kilometres away and only got 356 points witch is really low.)

Tip: Look at the types of cars and buildings to see what country they look from.

The Wiki game.

The wiki game is a game where you have to use links to find another topic. How the game works is it gives you a topic to start off with (in a wikipedia page) and a goal. It will look like this:

It will change every the topics every new game. You have to click the blue top topic to start.
You have to think quickly because you only have a minute to do find your topic. If my goal was dogs, then I would have to click links related to dogs so that I will find the page with the title, Dogs. You can use any links anywhere on the page. (You can tell if it's a link because it will be blue not the normal black.) A good strategy for the game is to quickly open a new tab and research your goal if you don't know about it so you pretty much know what links to click.

Here is the Link to the game.

New Rewards Systems.

Today at my school, Tauranga Intermediate, there have been new rewards put in place. First up, there is click cards. There are 40 clicks on one card and you can get one per day. But, there is the warnings. First you can get a verbal warning where the teacher tells you to stop it. Next you get your name on the board. After that and you're still being bad you get an X next to your next to your name. Then if you are still not behaving you get your name put under formal warning. This means you have to have a talk with a teacher at break time, fill in a S.T.A.R.S reflection card for half an hour in Miss Mills' class and take it home, get it signed by your parents and bring it back to school. In my class you definitely will get a click but, if you get your name on the board Miss Campbell will decide if you get a click or not. If you get a X next to your name you definitely will not get a click that day. Same for formal warning. If you do something really bad like swear at, punch or kick someone you will go straight to the leader of our house mr Carlen. My teacher will never take a name of the board.

There is something else called S.T.A.R.S cards. You can get given one at lunch or morning tea for showing the S.T.A.R.S. Safety, Teamwork, Achieve, Respect, Sense of humour. If you get given one you put your name and room number on it and put it in your house box in the library. In my house my syndicate leader, Miss Mills will take the Rimu box and draw out two cards to win vouchers for Burger King at Fraser Cove. On the last assembly every term, Mrs Colville will draw out one card from each house to win a S.T.A.R.S hoodie! If you win you can where it anywhere and any day at school. There is one hoodie for every house at school. On the very last assembly Mrs Colville will draw out one card to win a brand new bicycle!

These are the new rewards for Tauranga Intermediate. Thanks for reading.
